Welcome back. You were on step .
-
Step 1: Tap Done, then add a photo
When the app says Connection successful, tap Done to open Tell us about your dog. Tap the camera circle, choose Take a photo or Choose photo, then crop it to a square. The photo is optional. If you tapped I don’t have a tracker, this screen opens straight after Permission.
TipThe screen asks for a JPEG or PNG of up to 2 MB. The app makes large photos smaller for you, so most phone photos are fine.
Photo needed: The Crop Photo screen over Tell us about your dog: a dog’s photo inside the square crop frame (or the Take a photo / Choose photo sheet open over the camera circle)Can’t take or choose a photo?
Waggi needs access to your camera or photos. Open your phone’s Settings, find Waggi and allow Camera or Photos, then try again. Or carry on without one and add it later.
-
Step 2: Add their name, breed and birthday
Type your dog’s name in Pet Name. Tap Choose Breed and search for their breed, then tap Select Birthday and pick their date of birth. All three are needed. Then tap Continue.
TipCan’t find their breed? Type part of the name in Search breed, like “terrier”, and choose the closest match. You can change it later.
Photo needed: Tell us about your dog, filled in: a photo in the circle, a name in Pet Name, a breed in Choose Breed, a date in Select Birthday, and the Continue buttonA red message appeared under a field?
“Pet name must have at least 2 characters” means the name needs two characters or more. “Breed is required” or “Birthdate is required” means that field is still empty, so tap it to fill it in.
-
Step 3: Choose gender, body condition and neutered status
On Tell us more about, followed by your dog’s name, tap Male or Female. Under Body BCS, tap the number from 1 (Too thin) to 9 (Too heavy) that looks most like your dog; it starts at 5. For Neutered, Spayed / neutered is already chosen, so tap Not yet if they aren’t.
Photo needed: Tell us more about Bruno, top half: Male selected, the nine Body BCS dog pictures with 5 highlighted under Ideal, and Spayed / neutered selectedContinue is greyed out?
Tap Male or Female. Gender is the only answer on this screen that isn’t chosen for you.
-
Step 4: Set their weight, then tap Continue
Drag the Weight slider to your dog’s weight. It starts at 15 kg. To use pounds, tap LB. Then tap Continue. The app saves your dog’s profile and opens Set a safe zone, the last screen before “Welcome to Waggi”.
TipSetup doesn’t ask for height. Walks use it to measure distance from your dog’s steps, so add it later on the Profile tab. Tap the pencil next to their name and enter their Height on Pet Details, measured at the shoulder.
Photo needed: Tell us more about Bruno, scrolled down: the Weight card with KG selected, the slider moved and the value (for example 22.5 kg) shown under it, and the Continue buttonAn error appeared after you tapped Continue?
Check your phone has a mobile or Wi-Fi connection, then tap Continue again. If the message is about the photo, go back, tap the photo and choose a different one, or Delete photo, then continue. Your answers are kept.
Frequently asked questions
Your dog’s details
What are my dog’s details used for?
Their weight is used to work out the calories they burn on walks and through the day. Their age, weight, whether they’re neutered or spayed and how active they’ve been set the recommendation in the Food Portion Calculator on the Profile tab. Their body condition score is saved with their profile, but it doesn’t change calories or food portions at the moment. Setup doesn’t ask for height: if you add it later on Pet Details, walks use it to measure distance from your dog’s steps.
What if I don’t know my dog’s exact birthday?
Choose your best guess. The app uses the date to work out your dog’s age, and you can change it later if you find out the real one.
What if I don’t know my dog’s weight?
The slider starts at 15 kg, so move it to your best estimate rather than leaving it there. Update it after their next weigh-in or vet visit, from the Profile tab: tap the pencil next to your dog’s name. The closer it is, the more accurate their calories and food portions will be.
What is the body condition score?
It’s a scale from 1 to 9 that shows how lean or heavy your dog is. Under Body BCS, 1 to 3 are Too thin, 4 and 5 are Ideal, and 6 to 9 are Too heavy, each with a picture of a dog seen from above. Tap the one that looks most like your dog. It starts at 5, and you can change it later on Pet Details.
Which photos can I use?
Any photo from your camera or your phone’s library. Once you pick it, you crop it to a square, and the app makes large photos smaller for you. Photos need to be JPEG or PNG, up to 2 MB. The photo is optional, so you can also add one later.
Your account
Can I add more than one dog?
Not at the moment. Each Waggi account has one dog’s profile, with one tracker. If setup is done again on the same account, the new profile replaces the old one.
Can my family see my dog in their own app?
Not yet. Sharing with friends and family is coming soon. For now, your dog’s location and alerts show in the Waggi app signed in to the account that set up the tracker.
