Fix walk recording problems

Updated 23 Oct 2026

  1. Step 1: End Live mode first

Walks and Live mode can’t run together. If you see “The app can not start a walk mode while a live mode is active.”, tap End Live Location on the Home screen and confirm. Then tap the play button again.

It says it can’t start a live mode while a walk mode is active?

That’s the same rule the other way round. Stop the walk first, then tap Live.

  2. Step 2: Allow location Always, with Precise on

Your phone draws the route, so Waggi needs your location for the whole walk. If it asks when you start, tap Request Permission and choose Always, with Precise Location on. It asks again each time you come back to the app until everything is set.

    Fix location permission problems

TipAsked to turn on GPS? Tap Turn On, or switch on your phone’s location in its settings, then come back to Waggi.

  3. Step 3: Connect the tracker for steps

Steps come from the tracker over Bluetooth. If you see “Tracker is not connected”, tapping Start walk records the time, distance and route, but no steps or calories unless the tracker connects during the walk. To count steps, put the tracker on your dog, keep it close to your phone, and check Settings › Tracker Settings says Connected.

    Connection

TipDisconnected there? Tap Connect with the tracker next to your phone.

  4. Step 4: Keep your phone with you on the walk

Your phone records the route and time, and the tracker counts your dog’s steps. If they lose touch, steps stop counting until the tracker reconnects, which happens by itself. The time and route carry on.

TipSteps also stop while a walk is paused. Tap play to carry on.

It says “Can not start walk mode in a tracker device”?

Keep the tracker next to your phone, tap pause, then tap play to try again. It also tries again by itself if the tracker reconnects.

  5. Step 5: Tap Stop Walk, then Save walk

Tap the square stop button, then Stop Walk. On the summary, tap Save walk. The X deletes the walk for good, so don’t tap it unless you mean to. If saving fails, check you’re online and tap Save walk again.

    Record a walk

TipWaggi closed before you saved? Open it again. It takes you back to the walk’s summary.

The walk vanished when I tapped Stop Walk?

A walk that covered no distance isn’t kept. This happens when your phone couldn’t get a GPS signal. Add it by hand instead.

  6. Step 6: Add a missed walk by hand

Forgot to record a walk, or lost one? On the Walk tab, tap Stats & History, then Add Manual Walk. Enter its date and how long it lasted, then tap Save walk.

Frequently asked questions

It says “The app can not start a walk mode while a live mode is active.”

Walks and Live mode can’t run together. End Live mode first (tap End Live Location on Home and confirm), then tap Walk Now. The reverse message, “The app can not start a live mode while a walk mode is active”, means stop the walk first.

My walk shows no steps or calories.

Steps come from the tracker over Bluetooth, so they only count while it’s connected. If you saw “Tracker is not connected” and chose Start walk anyway, you get time, distance and route only, unless the tracker connected during the walk. Before your next walk, keep the tracker close and check Tracker Settings says Connected.

It says “Can not start walk mode in a tracker device. Please try again.”

Waggi couldn’t start step counting on the tracker. Keep the tracker next to your phone, tap pause, then tap play to try again. It also tries again by itself if the tracker reconnects.

It says “Walk mode is not stopped in a tracker device.”

The tracker didn’t confirm the pause. Your walk in the app is still paused. Keep the tracker next to your phone, tap play, then pause again. If it keeps happening, restart the tracker.

My walk route has straight lines or gaps.

Your phone draws the route with its GPS, so a straight line usually means it lost signal for a while, for example under trees or between tall buildings. Steps from the tracker aren’t affected.

I closed the walk summary and my walk is gone.

The X on the summary deletes the walk, after “Are you sure you want to permanently delete this walk?”, and it can’t be recovered. Add it again by hand with Add Manual Walk in Stats & History.

Save walk shows an error.

The walk stays on your phone. Check you’re online, then tap Save walk again. Don’t tap the X, which deletes it.

My dog’s walk distance looks too long or too short.

With the tracker connected, walks measure distance from your dog’s steps and their height. Check the Height on the Profile tab: it should be measured at the shoulder, in the unit shown. A new height starts in inches, so tap cm if you measured in centimetres. Then tap Save. If Height shows 0, distance comes from your phone’s GPS instead, so add their height.
